 Me’ah: A Journey through the Narrative of Jewish History

Beginning October 2017, TBS will be hosting a class through Me’ah, taught by experts in the field of Jewish history and Jewish tradition each Tuesday from 7-9:45.  The bios of the teachers for this course are listed below, click here to sign up for this extraordinary experience!

BIBLE – David Bernat, PhD
David Bernat is executive director of Synagogue Council of Massachusetts and a lecturer in Judaic Studies at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the Jewish Theological Seminary and a Ph.D. in biblical Interpretation from Brandeis University. Bernat is the author of “Sign of the Covenant: Circumcision in the Priestly Traditions,” and coeditor of “Religion and Violence: The Biblical Heritage.” He has been with the Meah program  since 1997, and planned and led Meah‘s summer Israel Study tour.

RABBINICS – Rabbi Benjamin Samuels
Benjamin J. Samuels, a veteran Meah instructor, has been rabbi of Congregation Sha’arei Tefillah in Newton, Mass., since 1995. He holds a bachelor’s degree in English literature and a master’s degree in Bible and medieval Jewish history from Yeshiva University. Samuels is a Genesis Scholar at CJP and teaches broadly in the Greater Boston Jewish community. He is currently completing a Ph.D. in religion and science at Boston University


Tuesday Night Talmud Class w/R. Posner

Our weekly Talmud class meets every Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. (except on Yomtov and occasional schedule conflicts). The class is led in both English and Hebrew/Aramaic by Rabbi Shmuel Posner of the Boston Chabad House. We are currently studying Tractate Shabbat. The class is free and beginners are welcome. Just drop in some Tuesday and check it out.

 Saturday Talmud Study w/R. Roth

Twice a month following the early Hashkamah minyan, Rabbi David Roth teaches a Talmud lesson that is open to the public to attend. An early kiddush is made at around 9:00 and the group learns until lunch. This is a relaxed, accessible and welcoming Talmud lesson currently studying Tractate Brachot. The class meets on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month.
