Tremont Street Shul
8 Tremont Street
Cambridge, MA 02139

Tremont Street is one block east of Prospect Street, just off Broadway, between Central and Inman Squares.
ACCESSIBILITY*
We regret that 8 Tremont Street is generally not an accessible building, although our sanctuary and office are accessible. People who have difficulty with stairs can enter our main sanctuary by using the wheelchair ramp to the left of the front entrance. If the door is not open during services, please knock. Our office is also accessible. Other spaces in our building, including our vestry, where some services are held and where kiddush and meals are served, require stairs to access, and we regret that we do not have a wheelchair-accessible restroom. Call or email the office for more information or if you wish access to the sanctuary at times other than during Shabbat or Holiday services. If you have special transportation needs, contact MBTA’s The Ride program at 1-(800) 533-6282 or (617) 722-5123.
* We have recently begun planning a broad Centennial Campaign, designed to make our building both wheelchair-accessible and also more welcoming in a variety of other ways. We hope to have this project completed by the fall of 2024, a long wait from today -- but it will be a big accomplishment for a small congregation in a 1924 building!
ERUV
The shul and the hotels listed below are inside the North Charles Community Eruv.
PARKING
Parking on Tremont Street is restricted to Cambridge residents with a sticker. Restrictions are not in effect on Sunday. There is non-resident parking on Broadway, on Norfolk Street along the park, on Hampshire Street, and in public parking lots off Massachusetts Avenue and at Kendall Square. Also beware of the monthly street cleaning days, which are posted. They tow 100% of the time. Note: Please be respectful of our neighbors and never park in or in front of any driveway, even if you will “only just be a minute.” Good relations with our neighbors are very important to us, and few things are as irritating as finding your driveway blocked.
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
Subway: Red line: Take the MBTA Red Line to Central Square station. Walk north on Prospect Street four blocks to Broadway, turn right, go one block, then turn left at Tremont Street. We are the third building down on the right side of the street.
If you are coming from Logan Airport, take the Silver Line from just outside your terminal to South Station and transfer to the Red Line inbound there.
Green line: Take the MBTA Green Line to Union Square station. Exit from the west end of the platform and turn left onto Prospect Street. Walk south on Prospect Street a half mile to Gardner St, turn left, go one block, then turn right at Tremont Street. We are on the left side of the street, a few houses before Broadway.
Bus: take MBTA route 69 to Prospect Street or take MBTA route 83 or 91 to Broadway. Walk east on Broadway one block from Prospect Street, then turn left at Tremont Street. Our shul is the third building down on the right side of the street. (See the MBTA Trip Planner for more transit information.) EZRide runs a shuttle bus from North Station, Monday – Friday, that stops at the corner of Windsor Street. and Broadway, about 6 blocks from the shul.
TAXI AND RIDE SHARING
If you are coming by taxi, Lyft, or Uber, make sure the driver understands that you are going to Tremont Street in Cambridge (a small side street), not Tremont Street in Boston (a main drag).
DRIVING
Setting your GPS to 8 Tremont Street, Cambridge, MA 02139 will get you to our shul. If you need old fashioned driving directions, here they are:
FROM METRO WEST VIA MASS PIKE (I-90), OR FROM LOGAN AIRPORT VIA TED WILLIAMS TUNNEL (I-90)
Take the Allston/Brighton exit. Stay right after tolls. Go straight over Storrow Drive and Charles River onto River Street. After approximately 0.6 miles you will be in Central Square. Proceed straight through onto Prospect Street. Take right at second light. This is Broadway. Tremont Street is the next street on the left, but going the wrong way. Park on Broadway and walk back to Tremont Street. Our shul is the third building down on the right side of Tremont Street.
FROM METRO WEST VIA ROUTE 2
Stay on Route 2 by Alewife T station and through the first rotary. At the second rotary, take a left to the left of the gas station onto Concord Ave. (Be careful — you have the right of way but the oncoming traffic may not yield.) Go by the Armory and playground. Go straight for almost 2 miles until the intersection of Mass Ave at Harvard Square. Go straight across until you are forced to make a left onto Mass Ave. Bear right and go under underpass and stay right, taking the right fork in the underpass. As you come out of the underpass get in left lane (right lane is for right turns). Go straight through the light. You now are on Broadway. Stay on Broadway for approximately 0.8 miles. Immediately after crossing Prospect Street (traffic light with Store 24 and gas station) park on right in front of small park. Walk down Tremont Street, which intersects Broadway one block east of Prospect Street. Our shul is the third building down on the right side of the street.
FROM BOSTON VIA CENTRAL ARTERY (I-93)
Take Storrow Drive West, Exit 26. Immediately get in the left lane and take the left exit in front of Mass General Hospital. Follow signs to Cambridge, around rotary and over Longfellow Bridge. After crossing the bridge you will be on Broadway. Stay on Broadway for approximately 0.8 mile. When you see a small park on your left, park the car. Tremont Street is on your right. Our shul is the third building down on the right side of the street.
